Post description module

Updated 15 September 2026

A few lines of each post's own words, trimmed to fit.

In short

Post Description shows the descriptive text belonging to each result. Two settings shape it: a word limit that keeps every item the same rough length, and a switch deciding whether formatting is kept or stripped away.

Settings

Switch Link on and the title becomes clickable.

Setting What it does Default
Word Limit How many words to show before the text is cut. 20
Enable HTML Whether formatting in the text is kept, or stripped so it shows as plain text. Off

A word limit, and whether formatting survives.

The word limit

This one matters more than it looks, because it's what keeps a grid tidy. Descriptions written by different people at different times vary wildly in length, and without a limit one item runs to a paragraph while its neighbour manages a line - which leaves a row of cards with uneven heights and a lot of white space.

Pick a number that fills the space you've given the module and stop there. Two lines is usually enough to tell someone what a result is; more than three and it stops being a summary.

Enable HTML

Off, the text arrives plain, with any formatting removed. On, the formatting comes through as written.

Plain is usually the better choice in a listing. Text written for a full page carries headings, bold runs and links that were sized for that context, and dropping them into a small card rarely improves it - while a stray heading can

Tip

Check the module against a post with a long, heavily formatted description rather than a short tidy one. The short one always looks fine; it's the awkward post that shows you whether the limit and the HTML setting are right.

Styling

How it looks comes from the Design tab, with the usual groups - Layout, Text, Sizing, Spacing, Background, Border and Box Shadow

Line height is the setting worth attention in the Text group. A description is the only block of running text in most items, and it needs more room between lines than a title does.

FAQ

My descriptions are different lengths and the grid looks uneven.

Set a Word Limit so every item is trimmed to the same rough length.

Formatting from my posts is showing up and breaking the layout.

Turn Enable HTML off and the text arrives plain.

How many words should I allow?

Enough to fill the space you've given it - usually two lines. Beyond three it stops being a summary.
