Product rating module

Updated 16 September 2026

How well a product is rated, as stars or as a number.

In short

Product Rating is a Pro module, and it shows each product's average review score. Display it as a row of stars, or as the number itself, with a prefix and suffix available either side.

Note

This module reads the WooCommerce product rating, so it only applies when you're filtering products. It also needs reviews to exist - a product nobody has reviewed has no rating to show.

Stars or a number

Display As What it shows Suits
Stars A row of stars filled to the product's score. A card, where the shape reads at a glance without anyone needing to process a number.
Average Value The score itself, as a figure. A tight space, or a listing where the exact number matters more than the impression.

Stars are the more common choice because they compare instantly across a row of results - a shopper scanning a grid sees which products are well liked without reading anything. The number is more precise and takes far less room, which matters when the item is already crowded.

Stars, or the average value as a figure.

Prefix and Suffix

Setting What it does
Prefix Something before the rating. Switch it on, choose Text or Icon, and set it.
Suffix Something after it. Same again, chosen separately.

These earn their place when the rating is shown as a number. A bare figure sitting in a card doesn't say what it's out of, and a suffix fixes that in a couple of characters. With stars, the shape already explains itself and the additions are usually unnecessary.

Tip

Look at what the module shows on an unreviewed product before adding it. A new shop where most products have no rating gets a listing full of empty stars, which reads worse than no rating at all.

Styling

How it looks comes from the Design tab, with the usual groups - Layout,Text Sizing, Spacing, Background, Border and Box Shadow

Keep the stars small. A rating is supporting evidence rather than the point of the card, and stars sized to compete with the price or the title pull attention away from both.

FAQ

Can I show the number instead of stars?

Yes - set Display As to Average Value.

Products with no reviews show nothing.

There's no rating until a product has been reviewed. On a catalogue where that's most of them, the module is usually better left out.

How do I say what the score is out of?

Switch on the suffix and set the text.

Is this the same as the Star Rating filter?

No. This shows a product's rating in the listing; the Star Rating filter module lets visitors filter by it. That one is Pro.

Does this work without WooCommerce?

No. It reads WooCommerce product ratings.
