How to create Custom Post Type & Taxonomies

Using Custom Post Types, we can extend a WordPress site. Basically, Custom Posts Types help you to go beyond default posts and pages.

By default, WordPress allows you to organize your content with categories and tags. But with custom post types and custom taxonomies you can multiple taxonomies filter and other many things.

Here, we’ll show you how to easily create custom taxonomies in WordPress with a plugin.

Creating a Custom Post Type

The easiest way to create a custom post type in WordPress is by using a plugin.

The first thing you need to do is install and activate the Custom Post Type UI plugin. Upon activation, the plugin will add a new menu item in your WordPress admin menu called CPT UI.

  1. Now go to CPT UI » Add New to create a new custom post type.
  2. Give any name to your new Post Type, Fill the required fields.
  3. Click on Add Post Type.
  4. New Post Type is created.

Creating a Custom Taxonomy

The easiest way to create a custom post type in WordPress is by using a plugin.

The first thing you need to do is install and activate the Custom Post Type UI plugin. Upon activation, the plugin will add a new menu item in your WordPress admin menu called CPT UI.

  1. Now go to Add/Edit Taxonomies.
  2. Fill the required fields again.
  3. Select the Post Type.
  4. New Taxonomy is created.
Important Setting :- Select Taxonomy, Scroll down, Find Hierarchical option, Change it to True and Save it. Now you have full list of categories in Sidebar to select under Post Page in WordPress Dashboard.
